We are looking for a highly driven and motivated cleanroom Polishing Technicianwho possess a strong work ethic to join our team in Spokane, Washington!

About the Job

The  Polishing Technician is responsible for materials inspection, preparation, handling, and processing in order to complete the production procedures for the polishing, inspection and packaging of  semiconductor wafers, mostly inside a cleanroom environment. The technician is expected to understand and follow documented procedures in order to ensure that wafers meet all customer and internal specifications in a highly effective and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) pertaining to the production process (mix chemistry and polishing solutions, then polish, demount, clean, and package wafers per procedures to meet customer specification requirements in full).
  • Understand wafer manufacturing specifications, and measurement verification techniques.
  • Perform inspection of wafer surface under bright light illumination microscopy.
  • Continuous records update & verification, ensuring database entries are up-to-date and correct.
  • Complete wafer packaging & shipment logistics.
  • Fill out equipment & facilities usage logs as required.
  • Follow all safety SOPs.
  • Follow all clean room hygiene SOPs.
  • Maintain inventory records of site materials and supplies. Work with Galaxy personnel to ensure that replacements ordered with sufficient lead time to maintain production linearity.
  • Works collaboratively with other personnel within the IQE IR Group (Wafer Technology Ltd.) to support product and process improvements.

QMS Continuous Improvement

· Understands and follows applicable procedures as outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual as well as maintaining a working knowledge of all production SOPs specific to assigned area.

· Participates, and supports participation, on diverse improvement teams as appropriate (i.e., with other Technicians, Engineering, and/or Management). This will include reducing variation in the process by insuring that all "out of control" or “non-typical” results are documented, investigated for an assignable cause, and corrective and/or preventive action taken as needed.

· Looks for continuous improvement opportunities in manufacturing and/or inspection practices to apply problem-solving skills in order to improve quality, reduce cycle time and/or cost, and improve On-Time Delivery.

Health & Safety

· Maintains a constant awareness of, and takes pro-active corrective action on, any and all identified hazardous conditions and/or practices.

Collects and forwards data to manager and the safety committee on any actual or “near miss” incidents in a constructive and preventive environment to ensure future safety of all employees at all times.

Qualifications/ Education

Good manual dexterity required to work with small and fragile parts, often under microscope inspection.

· Meticulous work organization, cleanliness, and safety habits are critical.

· Basic math skills.

· Basic computer skills (MS Outlook, Excel, and Word).

· Effective communication skills (both written and oral), and constructive teamwork.

· Basic understanding of yield metrics calculations.

· Familiar with laboratory procedures such as: handling of laboratory gases (nitrogen) and liquids (including acids, bases, oxidizers, various organic solvents).

· Proven ability to work explicitly within company safety procedures is essential.

· The Polishing Technician must be able to accurately use mechanical measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

Two-year degree or experience equivalency, or demonstrated ability to fulfill job responsibilities.

Physical Demands:
· The employee is regularly required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and have the ability to dress/gown for work in a cleanroom fab environment. Majority of the work will be in a standing position (approx. 75% of the workday).

· The employee may occasionally need to go up and down steps.

· The employee must regularly lift/carry/push/pull/move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

· The employee frequently is required to use hands to manipulate or feel objects, tools or controls with gloved hands.

· The employee must have steady hand control due to the fragile nature of the devices.

· The employee is required to be able to inspect samples under microscope magnification.

· The employee is regularly required to use a personal computer, related peripherals and standard office equipment.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

· The employee is required to talk or hear, in order to maintain verbal and written communications with co-workers and outside business associates, while wearing a facemask as PPE.

· While in the office and performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be required to sit, stand, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk and move separately during working hours.

· There is some use of potentially hazardous machinery; continuous attentiveness needed.

· The applicant should be willing to work different shifts consisting of 8–10-hour days and able to work productively while unsupervised, either alone or with a group of technicians.
