About the role

The primary functions of Production Fabrication Technicians are to manufacture III-V compound semiconductor wafers from Indium Antimonide, Gallium Antimonide materials. The Technicians carefully inspect the materials at each processing stage while fabricating the materials into parts for customers. They will perform precise orientation alignment, sawing, chemical etching, edge rounding and various other fabrication and characterization procedures on the materials before releasing wafers into the polishing process, for completion and shipment to customers.

  • Maintain database files and logs to provide traceability for each crystal and wafers. Maintain inventory records of both materials and supplies;
  • Cutting the crystals after growth. Identify the crystal orientation per customer specifications and prepare crystal section for final slicing using an various cutting methods for example Meyer & Berger saws
  • Mix chemistry and acid-etch wafers to precise thicknesses, preparing the surfaces for further processing;
  • Trepan (cut) round wafers based on specifications for customer diameter requirements. Maintain wafer identification and obtain orientation flat length within customer-specified accuracy and tolerances;
  • Edge round the wafers to obtain a smooth, rounded wafer edge profile. Clean and prepare wafers for delivery to the polishing lab;
  • Working within the policies and procedure of the ISO-certified Quality Management System and within specific Safety Procedures and Practices;

Requirements
About you

  • Able to use measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Experience operating mechanical equipment with electronic controls is extremely helpful (saws, edge profilers, and laser scribe), as well as a strong mechanical aptitude to effectively troubleshoot and resolve electro-mechanical problems on that production equipment.
  • Process problem-solving skills are a plus.
  • Minimum of a high school education required. Prefer education or experience equivalent to high school level chemistry and/or physics with prerequisite mathematics.
  • Familiarity in using computer programs and databases.
  • The Production Technician will become familiar with laboratory procedures such as handling of laboratory gases (nitrogen) and liquids (including acids, bases, oxidizers, and various organic solvents), all within documented Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to do this work explicitly within company safety procedures is essential.
