About the role
A Polishing Technician follows well-defined Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practices to chemically polish, inspect, de-mount, clean, measure, re-inspect, and then package semiconductor wafer substrates, ensuring consistent product quality.
The primary functions of the Polishing Technicians are to prepare equipment and materials and then carry out the prescribed steps in the production procedures for completing compound semiconductor wafers from Indium Antimonide and/or Gallium Antimonide slices. After demounting the wafers from polishing heads, the technician must test and inspect each wafer per the documented production procedures to ensure full conformance to exact customer specifications, before finally packaging for shipment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain specific wafer orientation and identification.
- Handle very fragile and expensive parts appropriately, maintaining meticulous cleanliness.
- Mix and apply acidic chemistry and polishing solutions in precise proportions.
- Polish the semiconductor wafers per procedures, ensuring surface finish integrity.
- Inspect wafers closely under a microscope within cleanroom conditions to ensure a proper surface finish is obtained.
- Test wafers using equipment provided for measuring customer-specified characteristics (flatness, cleanliness, and mechanical integrity).
- Maintain database files to provide traceable results for each crystal and wafer, certifying that all prior steps have been completed appropriately and ensuring that paperwork and data result spreadsheets are complete and accurate before transferring wafers to inventory and/or shipping.
- Maintain inventory records of materials and supplies submitting replenishment orders to purchase as needed.
- Cross functional collaboration.
- Able to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload throughout the day and week.
- Work within the policies and procedures of the ISO-certified Quality Management System (QMS) and within specific Safety Procedures and Practices.
